The Metropolitan maintains that some of the files were digitally manipulated and has declared he will challenge all of Suzuki's claims before a judge. It was at this point that Veronica Suzuki, the grandmother of his assistant who was his legal guardian in childhood, became part of the story. She came to Budapest, staying for many weeks in high-end hotels, with Hilarion covering all expenses. This period preceded what Hilarion later described to Hungarian authorities as an attempt at extortion.

An Alleged Extortion Plot Emerges

The situation took a darker turn when, early in 2024, George Suzuki vanished from Budapest. He later sent a message from Japan to Hilarion, explaining his absence by mentioning health issues and family difficulties. After Hilarion proposed providing a monthly stipend, he then got an electronic communication from Veronica Suzuki that requested €384,000.
