Seven years later, a chance encounter brought them together again. Ms. Rahman was shopping in Sydney when Mr. Kanis, walking his dog, recognised her. He noted her consistently stylish appearance. Italian-inspired decor and candlelit dining set the scene. Ms. Rahman and Mr. Kanis exchanged vows. Two days later, they held a traditional Bangladeshi wedding ceremony. Ms. Rahman wore her grandmother's exquisite ivory sari and heirloom jewellery from Bangladesh. Mr. Kanis wore fine clothing. Her family purchased these garments for him in Dhaka's markets. The clothing was then flown to Sydney. Ms. Rahman reflected on her relationship with Mr. Kanis. She described its positive impact, strengthening her inherent independence. She expressed a sense of completeness with Mr. Kanis as her partner and best friend. They shared a love for sweets, a fitting detail given her name, Mishti, meaning "sweet" in Bangla.

The elegant Italian-style celebration featured pistachio petit fours, catering to the bride's preference. The subsequent Bangladeshi ceremony showcased traditional regional sweets from Shapla Dessert Shoppe. Ms. Rahman donned five different designer outfits across the various intimate gatherings. For their legal ceremony, she wore a dress from a Bangkok boutique called Poem. For the outdoor Grecian ceremony, she chose a flowing ivory gown with a circular skirt, designed locally. The Italian celebration saw her in a custom-made Paolo Sebastian gown. Crafted to her exact measurements without structured seams, she considered it the perfect dress, reflecting her personality. It featured intricate French lace and a long, flowing veil. The celebration following the legal ceremony adopted a Hollywood theme, with locally designed attire. Finally, Ms. Rahman wore her grandmother's heirloom sari for the traditional Muslim ceremony, a treasured connection to her heritage. Guests received parting gifts of miniature spun-sugar confections and personalised matchboxes. The matchboxes, featuring illustrations of the couple, served as cherished mementos. 

Careers, Education, and a Quiet Legal Ceremony 

Mr. Kanis, 38, currently works in senior product management at Amazon. His educational background includes a science degree and subsequent finance training at the University of Sydney. Ms. Rahman, 32, holds a finance degree from another Sydney university. They both grew up in Sydney. Their legal marriage ceremony took place at Sydney's Registry Office in mid-January, officiated by Jasmine Diaz. A casual lunch at a five-story restaurant followed. The restaurant featured red and white tiled walls on the lower level and plain white walls above.
